What this rate covers

  • Main panel upgrade
  • Service upgrade
  • Subpanel
  • EV charger
  • Load centre relocation
  • Standby generator
  • Temporary power

Not listed? Ask. Most permit work in Los Angeles County and surrounding cities lands in one of these tiers, and if yours does not we will tell you which one it is closest to before you commit.

What the department wants from you

Send what you have. Anything missing, we come back and ask once, before it goes in rather than after a correction.

  1. Existing and proposed service size

100A to 200A is the common one. What you are going to is what sets the review path.

  2. Load calculation

Required for most upgrades and for chargers on an existing panel. This is the sheet that gets asked for when it is missing.

  3. Single line diagram

Needed once the service gets large enough or the utility is involved. We will tell you which side of that line your job sits on.

  4. Panel and equipment cut sheets

Panel, charger, and any transfer switch or generator.

  5. Your licence and BTRC numbers

Filed under your licence, signed by you.

Questions we get on this one

Does the utility need to be involved?

For a straight panel swap at the same service size, usually not. For an increase in service the utility has its own process running alongside the building permit, and the two do not wait for each other. We file the permit and tell you plainly where the utility side sits.

Cheaper to add the panel to my solar permit?

Yes, when the jurisdiction allows one submittal. Ask when you send the solar job and we will quote them together.

Do EV chargers really need a permit?

A hardwired charger does. A plug-in unit on an existing circuit generally does not, though the circuit that feeds it might have needed one. If you do not need a permit we will say so.

Got a permit sitting on your desk?

Send the address and scope. We will come back with a price and a realistic timeline.

Send us a job

Address and scope are enough to get a real number back. We will tell you what else the department needs.

Plain language is fine. “Bathroom gut and remodel, moving the toilet” tells us what we need.
